If you thought winter excursions ended with snowcoaches, snowmobiles, and skis, then you were wrong! There are many ways to experience the snowy landscape of West Yellowstone in the winter, from a romantic sleigh ride to a thrilling ride through the forest dogsledding.
Snowshoeing
The western corridor of Yellowstone Park and adjoining national forests offer incredible snowshoeing. The Rendezvous Ski Trails, the Riverside Trail, and the pet-friendly Boundary Trail in West Yellowstone, along with 40 miles of trails in the Old Faithful area, provide great trails and scenery for snowshoers of all abilities. Free ranger-guided interpretive snowshoe hikes are offered throughout the winter into Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding national forests. Pick up the free all-seasons area trail map from the visitor center. Snowshoe rentals, lessons, and guided tours are also available in town.
