Snowmobiling

Topping the list of favorite sledding destinations, West Yellowstone, Montana, is undoubtedly a snowmobiler’s paradise, with some of the most breathtaking scenery anywhere. There isn’t a more exhilarating way to enjoy the 150 inches of average annual snowfall and explore over 400 miles of trails. The mountain trail system begins directly in town, where sledders share city streets with motorists, and continues to trails in the Custer Gallatin, Beaverhead-Deerlodge, and Caribou-Targhee National Forests. Groomed trails provide access to pristine powder meadows and backcountry riding.

Snowmobile rentals, available at many local businesses, range from two-up easy riding and trail models to high-powered sleds adapted for mountain and backcountry riding. National forest guide services are available for snowmobilers new to the area, those who want to learn more about the trail system, or for backcountry riding.

West Yellowstone is also the most convenient entrance for a guided trip into Yellowstone National Park.
